The field of erotic photography is pretty wide. Most of it is made of black and white, nicely shot, nude photographs. It’s pretty rare to find something actually provocative, something that makes you stare for a minute. Ren Hang’s work is definitely provocative, slightly weird, and 100% beautiful.
Ren Hang’s photography
The artist was born in 1987 in Chang Chun, China. His explicit work is not very well received in conservative China whose traditional society rejects him and other artists from this new generation. However, he had exhibits in a lot of places, Russia, Italy, France, Sweden, UK, Austria and more. He’s published four monography books and he’s also a poet.
With the photos below, you’ll see that his work is definitely one of a kind. It’s not pretentious at all, yet deeply powerful. It’s deliberately explicit and he loves to show erect cocks and intertwined bodies. I love the way he focuses on creating weird shapes with human bodies, and how absurd it is sometimes.
A lot of his work focuses on gay men as well, which is not a very happy subject in China. It really makes me think because he’s my age and he’s been a photographer for years now and he’s rebellious and successful. He’s part of the “reawakening” generation and I think it’s truly inspiring.
