A few weeks ago, I was searching for a great new TV show to start watching. Despite the title of the show, Masters of Sex, I was a bit skeptical. However, I have a girl crush on Lizzy Caplan, so I gave it a try. I became absolutely addicted.
The contradiction of sex
Actually, the contradiction comes from us, oh so intelligent human beings. We have sex, but we don’t talk about it. At least, that’s what it was like in the 1950s, which is when the story takes place. It’s completely taboo, and women seem to think of it as a shore, having never experienced real, mutual pleasure. Except a few, of course. Virginia, played by Caplan, is hired by Dr. Bill Masters (Michael Sheen) to be his secretary while he works on a “sex project”. The point is too understand the biology of sex, and, eventually, reveal emotional conclusions. She then becomes her partner, as they come to form a bond together, allowing themselves to be the objets of the study.
Back to the beginning
I love how we can see them discovering things that we deem “normal” today. They show how the characters experiment with dildos, how they discover that female pleasure is actually much greater than we think! The curiosity behind the research on purely physicals responses, turn into a series of beautiful enlightenments around gender clichés, society, love and attraction.
Plus, the sex scenes are hot! Virginia is a character that is ahead of her time. She enjoys sex with different partners, without being married, and she shows the absurdity of the cliché according to which women have to form an emotional attachment with their partner in order to feel pleasure.
Here are a few hot sex scenes involving her…
