It has been almost two years since we shot the first scenes of DAWN. This project wasn’t a done deal. I had to hold on to it for a long time, and I’m happy I never gave up. I’m very proud of this film. It’s different than anything else I’ve done in the past. It’s not just about the sex, it’s about introspection, about finding that secret button that unlocks everything.

I’ve edited a soft teaser of one of my favorite scenes of the film. It looks like Magena and Dorothy are dancing like flames in the dark. We could feel the electricity on the shoot.

‘Wake up, sunshine’
DAWN is a trip. The main character has no name. She is all women. Played by Magena Yama, she experiences herself in different bodies, different situations. She explores her mind, because that’s where sexuality begins.
We shot in the dark. In the woods, in the water, in a storm, in my basement, in a hippy dude’s caravan, with actors from everywhere. Editing was definitely crucial in this one and I learned a lot technically speaking.
This is a very experimental movie. I feel there is not enough experimentation in porn, don’t you think? And I don’t mean position-wise. Sex is such vast topic, one that we don’t know much about, courtesy of our materialistic society. However, sex is not just physical. It’s not just ‘fun’. It’s the starting point of our energy. And knowing yourself is part of growing up. You’ve got to know the darkest sides of yourself in order to have truly independent thought.
Sexual Dawn
Libido is our engine. But even in a hypersexualized society likes ours, sexuality remains a mystery. What does it all mean? Is it a way for animals to feel pleasure, or a way for humans to connect with something higher than us? You can pretend, smile, show your tits and call yourself a sexpert, it doesn’t mean anything until you understand your own software. For me, sex has always been linked to my creativity, to my imagination. When I’m horny, my mind races with new ideas and I have more energy.
I feel a woman’s libido has more dimensions than a man’s. It involves more imagination, more context, which means that women might have an easier way to communicate with their intuition on a daily basis. It’s usually more difficult for men to express their feelings, and I see how hurtful it is to them. But women have the advantage of being socially allowed to express their emotions. This fluid communication between our mind and our bodies allows us to understand ourselves better.
In DAWN, we dive into the female mind and explore these dimensions where the real and the fake appear to us, where the invisible takes shape.
